6 steps

Ingredients

  • 2 qt. popped corn
  • 1 c. light or dark corn syrup
  • 1 tsp. white vinegar
  • 1 c. firmly packed dark brown sugar
  • 1/4 c. water
  • 2 Tbsp. margarine

Directions

  1. 1
Place popcorn in large bowl or pan.
  2. 2
In heavy 2-quart saucepan, stir together corn syrup, vinegar, sugar and water. Stirring constantly, cook over medium heat until mixture boils. Continue cooking, stirring occasionally, until temperature reaches 265° on candy thermometer, or until small amount of mixture dropped into very cold water forms a ball which is hard enough to hold its shape, yet elastic.
  3. 3
Remove from heat; stir in margarine.
  4. 4
Slowly pour over popcorn, stirring with a long handled spoon.
  5. 5
When cool enough to handle, yet still quite warm, quickly shape into balls. Wrap each individually in plastic wrap.
  6. 6
    Makes about ten 3-inch balls.
