  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 1/2 tsp. soda
  • 1/2 tsp. vinegar
  • 4 1/3 c. plain flour (correct measurement)
  • 1 egg
  • 3/4 c. sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. vanilla

Directions

    Cream shortening and sugar thoroughly.

    Add egg and beat until creamy.

    Add soda dissolved in vinegar.

    Add vanilla and then add flour gradually to make a stiff batter that can be rolled very thin.

    Cut out and bake in moderate (350°) oven until brown.

    They are very crisp and continue to taste fresh after 2 weeks.
