Ingredients

  • 2 lb. beef chuck, cut in 1 1/2-inch cubes
  • 1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 1 medium onion, sliced
  • 1 or 2 bay leaves
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. pepper
  • 1/2 tsp. paprika
  • dash of allspice
  • 6 carrots, quartered
  • 4 potatoes, quartered
  • 1 lb. small white onions

Directions

    Brown meat in small amount of oil.

    Add 2 cups water and next 9 ingredients.

    Simmer 1 1/2 hours.

    Remove bay and garlic.

    Add vegetables, cover and cook until vegetables are tender.

    Thicken liquid with flour, if desired.

    Serves 6 to 8.
