  • 4 eggs
  • 3/4 c. sugar
  • 2 c. molasses
  • 3/4 c. vegetable shortening (at room temperature)
  • 3 c. flour
  • 2 tsp. baking soda
  • 2 tsp. ground ginger
  • 1 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 c. sour milk or buttermilk

Directions

    Beat eggs; beat in sugar, molasses and shortening.

    Sift dry ingredients together and add alternately to egg mixture with the milk.

    Pour into large black skillet and bake at 300° until done or pour into a 13 x 9 x 2-inch pan that has been greased and floured and bake approximately 45 minutes or until tests done.
