Ingredients

  • 2 yeast cakes or 2 pkg. dry yeast
  • 1 1/2 c. buttermilk (lukewarm)
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 4 1/2 c. flour
  • 1/4 c. warm water
  • 1/4 c. sugar
  • 1/2 c. melted shortening
  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda

Directions

    Dissolve yeast in warm water.

    In a bowl, combine buttermilk, sugar, salt and shortening.

    Sift flour and soda into a large bowl. Stir in yeast mixture and mix well.

    Let stand 10 minutes.

    Roll out dough and cut into desired shape.

    Butter the top and let stand 30 minutes.

    Bake at 425° for 10 to 12 minutes.

    Serve warm.
