  • 2 large onions
  • 2 Tbsp. butter
  • 1/4 tsp. pepper
  • triangles of stale bread, crust trimmed off
  • 1 c. cream of chicken soup
  • 1 soup can milk
  • 1/2 lb. grated Swiss or Cheddar cheese

Directions

    Slice onions and saute in a large skillet with butter; sprinkle with pepper.

    When onions are soft, place in a 9 x 12-inch casserole dish.

    Sprinkle with grated cheese.

    Mix soup and milk until smooth.

    Pour over onions and cheese.

    Lay triangles of stale bread on top.

    Bake at 400° for 20 minutes. Serves 6 to 8.
