  • 1 cup margarine
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 3 1/2 cups plain flour
  • 1 box chopped dates
  • 1 lb. chopped candy orange slices
  • 1 can angel flaked coconut
  • 2 cups chopped nuts
  • dash of salt

Directions

    Cream margarine and sugar, add eggs one at a time, beating well.

    Dissolve soda in buttermilk.

    Add flour alternately with buttermilk to creamed mixture.

    Roll nuts, candy, and dates in a little extra flour.

    Add coconut to the floured mixture and roll all this to batter.

    Bake in greased and floured tube pan in 250° oven for 2 1/2 hours.

    Pour topping over cake while it is still warm.

    Let set 8 to 10 hours before serving.
