Orange Slice Cake

  • 1 c. butter
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1/2 c. buttermilk
  • 3 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
  • 1 lb. dates, chopped
  • 1 lb. orange slices candy, chopped
  • 2 c. nuts, chopped
  • 1 can Angel Flake coconut

Directions

    Cream butter and sugar until smooth.

    Add eggs, one at a time. Beat well after each addition.

    Dissolve soda in buttermilk and add to creamed mixture.

    Pour flour in large bowl and add dates, orange slices and nuts.

    Stir to coat each piece and add this mixture with the coconut to creamed mixture.

    This makes a very stiff dough that can be mixed with hands.

    Put in a greased and floured 13 x 9 x 3-inch cake pan.

    Bake at 250° for 2 1/2 or 3 hours.
