Orange Slice Cake

  • 2 sticks butter
  • 2 c. white sugar
  • 4 whole eggs
  • 3 1/2 c. plain flour
  • 1/2 c. buttermilk
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 2 c. nuts
  • 1 pkg. chopped dates
  • 1 can Angel Flake coconut
  • 1 lb. orange slice candy, cut in small pieces

    Cream together butter and sugar.

    Beat the eggs into the butter and sugar mixture with mixer.

    Mix in the flour, buttermilk, soda and salt.

    Add the nuts, chopped dates, coconut and candy pieces. Batter should be very stiff.

    Bake at 250° in a tube pan lined with waxed paper for three hours.

    When cake is done, leave in pan. Pour a mixture of 1 cup orange juice blended with 2 cups confectioners sugar over the cake.

    Leave the cake in pan overnight.

    The next morning, turn the cake out on a serving plate. This is a good cake to freeze.
