Overnight Ham Sandwiches

Ingredients
- 12 slices white bread
- 1/2 lb. sharp Cheddar cheese, grated
- salt and pepper (white) to taste
- 6 slices ham (real or boiled)
- 3 eggs, beaten
- 2 1/2 c. milk
- butter (at room temperature)
- mushrooms, onions and peppers, sauteed in margarine (optional)
Directions

1Trim bread crusts.

2Butter both sides of bread.

3Make 6 sandwiches with buttered bread and ham.

4Place close together in a long buttered Pyrex dish.

5Sprinkle grated cheese over sandwiches. Add beaten eggs, milk, salt and pepper to taste.

6Cover with foil tightly; refrigerate overnight.

7Remove from refrigerator 1 hour before baking.

8Uncover; bake at 325° for 50 to 60 minutes.

9Cut into 3 x 3-inch squares.

10It puffs up like a souffle.
