  • 1 quart whole milk
  • lemon, zest of
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Directions

    Heat milk, lemon zest and cinnamon in a larger saucepan until very hot, but not boiling.

    Meanwhile, mix sugar, eggs, flour and vanilla in a mixing bowl until well combined.

    When the milk is quite hot, temper the flour mixture with a bit of milk, and then add it all back into the saucepan.

    Whisk constantly over medium heat until thickened.
