- 2 c. sliced fresh or canned peaches
- 1/4 c. butter or margarine, softened
- 1 3/4 c. sugar, divided
- 1 c. all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 c. milk
- 1 Tbsp. cornstarch
- 1/4 tsp. ground nutmeg
- 1 c. boiling water
- whipped cream or ice cream (optional)
Directions

1Place peach slices in an 8 x 8-inch square pan.

2Cream the butter and 3/4 cup sugar. Combine flour, baking powder and salt. Add to creamed mixture alternately with milk.

3Spoon mixture over fruit. Sift together 1 cup sugar, cornstarch and nutmeg.

4Sprinkle over batter.

5Pour water over top.

6Bake at 350° for 60 minutes. Makes 6 servings.
