- 6 Tbsp. butter
- 1/2 c. brown sugar
- 1/2 c. granulated sugar
- 1 egg (unbeaten)
- 1/2 tsp. vanilla
- 2 pears
- maraschino cherries
- 1 c. flour
- 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1/3 c. milk
Directions

1Melt 2 tablespoons butter in an 8-inch square pan.

2Sprinkle brown sugar over butter.

3Pare and core pears; slice in 1/2-inch slices.

4Arrange on top of brown sugar.

5Place a cherry in center of each slice.

6Cream butter.

7Add 1/2 cup granulated sugar. Cream well.

8Add egg; beat until fluffy.

9Add vanilla.

10Mix the sifted flour, baking powder and salt; add to butter mixture alternately with milk.

11Pour batter over pears.

12Bake at 375° for 25 to 30 minutes.
