Ingredients

  • 1 lb. butter
  • 6 eggs, separated
  • 1/3 c. brandy
  • 3 1/2 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 2/3 c. molasses
  • dash of salt
  • 1 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1 lb. pecans, chopped
  • 1 lb. dried currants

    Cream butter and sugar together; add beaten egg yolks.

    Add molasses and brandy.

    Sift flour, nutmeg, salt and baking powder. Add to mixture.

    Add pecans and currants.

    Fold in stiffly beaten egg whites.

    Bake in a loaf pan which has been greased and floured at 275° for 2 to 2 1/2 hours.

    Wrap in wine-soaked cloth for storage.
