Pennsylvania Dutch Bread Pudding

  • 8 slices bread
  • 1 1/2 c. hot milk
  • 1/4 c. butter
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 4 eggs
  • 3/4 c. sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1 c. raisins
  • 1 c. diced apples
  • 1/2 c. brown sugar

    Toast bread and cut into 1/2-inch cubes.

    Put in 1 1/2-quart casserole.

    Add hot milk and butter.

    Let stand 30 minutes.

    Beat eggs until fluffy.

    Add salt, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, raisins and apples.

    Pour over bread mixture and bake, uncovered, in 300° oven for 45 minutes.
