  • 2 c. brown sugar
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1 c. water
  • 1 Tbsp. butter
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 c. nuts (optional)

Directions

    Stir sugar, salt and water over low heat until sugar dissolves. Boil slowly without stirring to the soft ball stage, 238° (when a spoonful of mixture is dropped in a cold small bowl of water, it will form a soft ball capable of being picked up).

    Add butter; do not stir.

    Place saucepan in bowl of cold water.

    When bottom of pan is cool, beat until creamy.

    Add vanilla and nuts.

    Do not overbeat.

    Drop candy from spoon onto waxed paper.
