- 1/2 cup Land O Lakes Butter, softened
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 1 Land O Lakes Egg (yolk only)
- 3/4 teaspoon peppermint flavoring
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 8 to 10 drops red food color
- Large grain sugar, if desired
- 36 large chocolate chips or mini-kisses
Directions

1Heat oven to 350F.

2Place butter and sugar in bowl.

3Beat at medium speed, scraping bowl often, until creamy.

4Add egg yolk, peppermint flavoring and vanilla; beat until well mixed.

5Add flour and salt; beat at low speed until well mixed.

6Remove half of dough from bowl.

7Add small amount of red food color to dough in bowl; mix well.

8Divide each half of dough into quarters; roll each quarter to 9-inch log.

9Place 1 red log next to 1 white log; twist gently to swirl dough.

10Roll gently to smooth.

11Repeat with remaining dough.

12Cut each swirled rope of dough into 9 pieces; roll each piece gently into a ball.

13Roll each ball in coarse grain sugar, if desired.

14Place onto ungreased cookie sheets.

15Bake 11-13 minutes or until edges are lightly browned.

16Immediately press 1 chocolate chip in center of each ball.
