  • 1 tsp. vegetable oil
  • 1 1/2 c. chopped onion
  • 1 jalapeo pepper, seeded and finely chopped
  • 1 large clove garlic, minced
  • 1 lb. ground turkey or sirloin
  • 1 large chopped and peeled Granny Smith apple
  • 1/2 c. water
  • 1/4 c. sliced pimento-stuffed olives
  • 1/4 c. raisins
  • 3/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. pepper
  • 2 (3-inch) cinnamon sticks
  • 1 (14.5 oz.) can diced tomatoes (undrained)
  • toasted slivered almonds

Directions

    Heat oil in large pan.

    Saut onion 3 minutes.

    Add jalapeo and garlic; saut 1 minute.

    Add meat; saut 3 minutes or until brown, stirring to crumble.

    Stir in apple and next 7 ingredients; bring to a boil.

    Reduce heat and simmer, uncovered, for 30 minutes or until thick.

    Remove from heat; remove cinnamon sticks and stir in almonds.
