- 16 lb. whole cucumbers
- salt
- alum
- 1 gal. vinegar
- 10 lb. sugar
- 1/2 box spice
Directions

1Put cucumbers in churn with about 2 cups salt to 1 gallon water until egg floats.

2Let set 7 days.

3Take out of churn and wash well.

4Cut up.

5Put 4 tablespoons alum to 1 gallon water and pour over cut up cucumbers.

6Let set overnight and wash well.

7Put back in churn.

8Pour 1 gallon vinegar over them and let set 6 hours. Pour vinegar off and throw away.

9Put sugar and spice in layers. Let set 2 days.

10Do not seal.

11When adding spice, put in a thin cloth.

12Use 5% vinegar (Heinz).
