  • 1 c. shortening or 1/2 c. shortening and 1 stick margarine
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 c. milk
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 2 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 c. flour
  • 2 c. freshly ground poppy seed

Directions

    Cream shortening and sugar together.

    Beat in eggs until smooth.

    Add milk, baking powder, salt and vanilla and beat in. Add flour a little at a time beating until smooth.

    Then add poppy seed, mixing thoroughly.

    Pour into greased and floured tube cake pan.

    Bake at 350° for about one hour.
