Ingredients

  • 1 cup port wine
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon freshly grated orange zest
  • Pinch of ground cloves (optional)
  • Pinch of ground cinnamon (optional)
  • Pinch of freshly ground black pepper (optional)

Directions

    Stir together all of the ingredients in a small saucepan over medium heat.

    Cook, stirring constantly, for 5 to 10 minutes, or until the sugar dissolves and the syrup is very hot.

    Pour the syrup into a container with a lid and allow it to cool to room temperature before covering and storing in the refrigerator.
