- 2 cloves garlic, smashed
- salt
- 6 large waxy potatoes (like red bliss), thinly sliced
- 2 cups half and half
- 4T butter, room temperature
- nutmeg, salt and pepper
- 1 cup Gruyere, grated
Directions

1Preheat oven to 400.

2Coat 8x8 pan with butter.

3Put all ingredients except Gruyere in a pot and stir to coat potatoes. Bring to a boil over medium high heat, while stirring. After 8-10 minutes, mixture will thicken considerably. Transfer to pan and top with Gruyere.

4Bake 20-30 minutes until deep golden brown.

5Cool before serving
