- 4 or 5 eggs, separated
- 1 stick butter
- 1/2 c. Crisco
- 1 1/2 c. sugar
- 2 tsp. almond extract
- 3 c. Presto cake flour, sifted 3 or 4 times
- 1/2 c. orange juice
- orange or lemon rind
Directions

1Preheat oven to 375°.

2Grease and flour a 9-inch tube pan. Blend butter, Crisco and sugar.

3Add egg yolks and beat until frothy.

4Add the almond extract.

5In three additions, add the flour alternately with the orange juice.

6Add the orange or lemon rind.

7Beat egg whites until stiff and gently fold into the batter.

8Bake for 50 minutes or until a cake tester comes out dry. Cool in pan for 10 minutes.

9Turn out on rack to finish cooling.
