  • 1 c. Crisco
  • 3 c. sugar
  • 1/4 tsp. soda
  • 5 eggs
  • 1 c. buttermilk
  • 3 c. Swans Down cake flour
  • 1 tsp. lemon flavoring (optional)
  • 1 Tbsp. water
  • dash of salt

Directions

    Cream shortening.

    Add sugar; cream until fluffy.

    Dissolve soda in the water and pour into creamed mixture along with the salt.

    Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each.

    Gradually stir in buttermilk and cake flour.

    Add flavoring last.

    Pour batter into greased and floured 12 cup tube pan and bake about 1 1/2 hours at 275°.

    Do not open oven door while cake is baking.
