- 1 1/2 lb. sugar
- 1 pt. water
- 1/4 lb. butter
- oil of peppermint (buy at drugstore)
- pink or green food coloring (optional)
Directions

1Put sugar, water and butter in a saucepan.

2Without stirring, cook until a little of the boiling syrup dropped in cold water makes a hard ball or is brittle.

3Flavor with 5 to 10 drops of oil of peppermint or to suit taste and pour out on a marble slab or platter.

4When cool, pull until light.

5Make a long roll and cut into cubes with scissors or cut into finger length pieces.

6Fold 2 ends together and cut across the center.

7This will give a twisted effect and make the right size.

8When candy is cut, put in a tightly closed tin box and leave for 8 to 10 hours to cream.
