  • 2 c. whole wheat flour
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 egg
  • 1 c. buttermilk or sour milk
  • 1/2 c. molasses
  • 1/4 c. melted shortening or salad oil

Directions

    Mix flour, salt, soda and baking powder thoroughly in mixing bowl.

    Beat the egg in bottom of pint size bowl.

    Add milk, molasses and shortening; mix.

    Add liquid mixture to dry ingredients and stir only enough to mix.

    Pour into greased 8 x 8-inch or 7 x 11-inch pan.

    Bake in oven at 350° about 45 minutes.
