- 3 eggs
- 1 c. sugar
- 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
- 3 Tbsp. melted shortening or oil
- 6 1/2 c. self-rising flour
- 1 c. buttermilk
Directions

1Beat eggs until thick and lemon colored.

2Gradually beat in sugar and nutmeg.

3Blend in shortening.

4Add flour alternately with milk, using only enough flour to make a soft dough.

5Turn out on lightly floured board and knead gently for 30 seconds.

6Roll 1/2-inch thick.

7Cut with floured doughnut cutter.

8Fry in deep fat until brown, about 1 1/2 minutes on each side.

9Drain well. While warm, coat with granulated sugar or confectioners sugar. Makes approximately 3 dozen.
