Ingredients

  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 slices white bread
  • 2 c. water
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. pepper
  • 1 Tbsp. chopped parsley
  • 1/8 tsp. ground nutmeg
  • 2 Tbsp. oil
  • 1 (12 oz.) jar mushroom gravy
  • 1/4 c. Burgundy wine or water
  • 1 1/2 c. Minute rice

Directions

    Combine beef, onion, bread, 1/2 cup of the water, 1/2 teaspoon of the salt, pepper and nutmeg in a large bowl; mix well.

    Shape into 4 loaves.

    Cook loaves in hot oil in a large skillet until browned.

    Stir in gravy and wine.

    Reduce heat, cover and simmer 15 minutes or until cooked through.

    Meanwhile, bring remaining water and salt to a boil.

    Stir in rice and parsley; cover. Remove from heat.

    Let stand 5 minutes.

    Fluff with a fork.

    Serve rice with loaves.
