"Quickie" Sauerbraten

  • 5 lb. lean beef
  • 1 pt. chili sauce
  • 1 1/2 c. vinegar
  • 5 c. water
  • 4 tsp. salt
  • 3 large onions
  • 12 bay leaves
  • 18 whole cloves
  • 4 Tbsp. sugar
  • pepper to taste

Directions

    Place meat in large kettle with all ingredients.

    Simmer 2 or 3 hours until meat is tender.

    Remove meat.
  4. 4
    Strain gravy into large bowl.

    Replace in kettle and thicken with flour and water mixture.

    Slice meat and combine with thickened gravy.

    Serve over noodles.
