Ingredients

  • 2 c. raisins
  • 2 c. hot water
  • 2 tsp. soda
  • 3 eggs, beaten
  • 1 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 Tbsp. butter
  • 4 c. flour
  • 1 c. nuts

Directions

    Mix together raisins, hot water and soda.

    Let stand overnight. Mix eggs, sugar, salt, vanilla and butter and add to raisin mix. Add flour and nuts.

    Bake 1 hour in slow oven.

    Start at 350° for 20 to 30 minutes, then down to 275°.

    This sometimes takes an extra 10 minutes, depending on your oven.

    Check with toothpick, but you don't want it too dry.

    Should be slightly moist.

    Makes 1 large or two small loaves.
