Raisin Date Bread Pudding

  • 4 c. milk
  • 5 c. day old bread crumbs
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 8 eggs, beaten
  • 1/2 c. butter or margarine, melted
  • 1/4 c. chopped dates
  • 1/4 c. raisins
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • dash of salt
  • dash of ground nutmeg
  • additional sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg (optional)
  • whipped cream or ice cream (optional)

Directions

    In a large bowl, pour milk over bread.

    Add sugar, eggs, butter, dates, raisins, vanilla, cinnamon, salt and nutmeg; stir to mix well.

    Pour in a greased 13 x 9-inch baking dish.

    If desired, sprinkle top with additional sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg. Bake at 350° for 55 minutes or until golden brown and a knife inserted near the center comes out clean.

    Serve warm with whipped cream or ice cream.
