Raisin-Nut Bread With Dates

- 1 1/2 c. water
- 1 c. sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 2 tsp. soda
- 3/4 c. walnuts, chopped
- 1 1/2 c. raisins
- 2 Tbsp. shortening
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 2 3/4 c. flour
- 1 pkg. dates, chopped (1 c.)
Directions

1Boil water and raisins together for 1 minute.

2Cool.

3Mix and cream together sugar, shortening, egg, salt and vanilla.

4Add raisins and water to mixture.

5Add remaining ingredients and mix well.

6Fill 3 or 4 cans (greased) half full.

7Use 17 ounces can of peas or corn.

8Place on baking sheet so they don't touch.

9Bake about 1 hour at 350°.
