Raisin-Nut Bread With Dates

  • 1 1/2 c. water
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 tsp. soda
  • 3/4 c. walnuts, chopped
  • 1 1/2 c. raisins
  • 2 Tbsp. shortening
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 2 3/4 c. flour
  • 1 pkg. dates, chopped (1 c.)

Directions

    Boil water and raisins together for 1 minute.

    Cool.

    Mix and cream together sugar, shortening, egg, salt and vanilla.

    Add raisins and water to mixture.

    Add remaining ingredients and mix well.

    Fill 3 or 4 cans (greased) half full.

    Use 17 ounces can of peas or corn.

    Place on baking sheet so they don't touch.

    Bake about 1 hour at 350°.
