  • 1 small head red cabbage (2 lb.), sliced fine (5 c., firmly packed)
  • 3 tart apples, cored, peeled and cut in eighths
  • 1/4 c. each: brown sugar and vinegar
  • 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp. each: allspice and cloves
  • 1 Tbsp. butter
