- 2 pkg. dry yeast
- 2 Tbsp. warm water
- 5 c. flour
- 1/2 c. sugar
- 1 Tbsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. soda
- 1 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 c. shortening
- 2 c. buttermilk
- melted butter
Directions

1Dissolve yeast in warm water. Let stand for 5 to 10 minutes. Sift flour, sugar, baking powder, soda and salt in a bowl.

2Cut in shortening until crumbly.

3Add 1 cup buttermilk.

4Mix well. Stir in yeast and remaining 1 cup buttermilk.

5Knead on floured surface.

6Roll dough to 1/4-inch thickness.

7Dip into butter. Place on baking sheet.

8Let rise for 1 hour or longer. Bake at 400° to 425° for 5 to 10 minutes or until brown.
