Ingredients

  • 2 pkg. yeast
  • 1/2 c. lukewarm water
  • 1 1/2 c. milk, scalded
  • 2 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 c. shortening
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 5 1/2 to 6 c. sifted flour

Directions

    Soften yeast in warm water.

    Scald milk. Add sugar, salt and shortening.

    Cool to lukewarm.

    Add 2 cups flour and beat well. Add yeast and beaten egg. Blend thoroughly. Add remaining flour to make a soft dough. Turn out on lightly floured board and knead until smooth and satiny.

    Place in lightly greased bowl.

    Cover and let rise in warm place (80° to 85°) until doubled in bulk.
