Ingredients
- 5 c. sifted flour
- 1/2 c. sugar
- 1 3/4 tsp. salt
- 1/3 c. shortening
- 1 egg, well beaten
- 1/4 c. lukewarm water
- 1 c. milk, scalded
- 1 pkg. active dry yeast
Directions

1Sift flour and salt together.

2Scald milk; add shortening and sugar and stir until dissolved.

3Dissolve yeast in water.

4When milk has cooled, add 1 cup flour and stir until smooth.

5Add yeast and egg; beat well.

6Add flour gradually until dough becomes stiff enough to knead with hand and has a satin like finish.

7Place in a greased bowl; cover with a clean damp towel and place in the refrigerator until the next day or set in a warm place and let rise until double in size.

8Form into rolls.

9Let rise again until double in size.

10Bake 15 to 20 minutes at 400°.

11Makes 3 dozen.
