- 1 cake yeast or 1 pkg. dry yeast
- 1 c. hot water
- 1/4 c. sugar
- 1 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/4 c. shortening
- 1 egg, beaten
- 3 1/4 to 3 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
Directions

1Soften yeast in lukewarm water; pour hot water over sugar, salt and shortening.

2Cool to lukewarm.

3Add 1/2 cup flour and mix thoroughly.

4Add softened yeast, about 1/2 remaining flour and egg, beating thoroughly.

5Add enough flour to make a soft dough that can be handled on board.

6Allow to rest for 5 to 10 minutes. Knead 3 to 5 minutes.
