Ingredients

  • 1 1/3 c. sugar
  • 2/3 c. vinegar
  • 1/2 tsp. mustard seed
  • 1/2 tsp. celery seed
  • 1/3 c. water
  • 1 head cabbage, shredded
  • 2 Tbsp. salt
  • 1 onion (medium), chopped
  • 2 to 3 stalks celery, chopped
  • 1/2 green pepper, chopped

Directions

    Boil together the first 5 ingredients until sugar dissolves, approximately 4 minutes. Cool.

    Combine the cabbage and salt.

    Mix and let stand at room temperature.

    Squeeze cabbage.

    Add some cold water and squeeze again.

    Chop the onion.

    Let stand in vinegar while mixing other ingredients.

    Chop the celery and green pepper.

    Mix and store in refrigerator until used.
