Ingredients

  • 4 1/2 c. flour
  • 2 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 3/4 c. buttermilk
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • 2/3 c. shortening
  • 1 cake yeast
  • 3/4 c. sweet milk

Directions

    Mix dry ingredients together.

    Cut in shortening.

    Dissolve the yeast in 1 tablespoon warm water.

    Put all liquids in dry ingredients, mixing thoroughly.

    Turn out on floured board.

    Roll thin.

    Brush with melted butter on top and between layers.

    Let rise about 2 hours before baking. Bake 12 to 14 minutes in a 400° oven.
