  • 1 1/4 or 1 1/2 c. boiling water
  • 1 c. quick oats
  • 1/2 c. shortening or margarine
  • 1 c. white sugar
  • 1 c. brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 1/2 c. flour

Directions

    Pour the boiling water over the oats; let stand for 20 minutes.

    Cream together the shortening or margarine, sugars and eggs.

    Add the remaining ingredients; mix well.

    Bake at 350° for 35 to 40 minutes in an 8 x 11-inch or 9 x 9 x 2-inch pan.
