- 1 1/2 lbs chuck, cut into 1 inch cubes
- 2 cups cooked tomatoes, , chopped
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 1 bay leaf
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 3 quarts cold water
- 1 medium head of cabbage, shredded
- 2 teaspoons white vinegar
- 2 teaspoons white sugar
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
- sour cream
- salt and pepper
Directions

1In a large soup pot cover the beef, tomatoes, onion, bay leaf and garlic with cold water.

2Let stand for 1 hour and simmer covered for 3 hours.

3Remove the bay leaf, add cabbage, sugar, onion, salt and pepper.

4Simmer for 15 minutes more.

5Remove from heat, add lemon juice and offer Sour Cream at the table.
