- 1 c. sugar
- 1 1/2 tsp. cornstarch
- 1 c. light corn syrup
- 1 Tbsp. butter
- 1/2 c. water
- 1/4 tsp. cream of tartar
- few grains of salt
- 1 tsp. vanilla
Directions

1Mix first 6 ingredients in saucepan.

2Place over low heat and stir until sugar is dissolved.

3Wash down crystals.

4Insert thermometer and boil, without stirring, to very firm ball, 256°. Remove from heat and add salt.

5Pour on slightly oiled platter or marble and let stand only until cool enough to handle. Add vanilla and pull until light colored, starting as soon as possible. Finish in a rope 3/4-inch in diameter.

6With a scissors, cut in 1-inch pieces.

7Wrap in wax paper.

8Use lots of butter on your hands while pulling.
