Savory Cheese Soup

Ingredients
- 1/4 c chopped onion
- 3 T butter or margarine
- 1/4 c flour
- 1/4 t salt
- 1/8 t pepper
- 1/8 t garlic powder
- 2 c milk
- 1-14 1/2 oz can chicken broth
- 1/2 c shredded carrots
- 1/2 c finely chopped celery
- 1 1/2 c shredded cheddar cheese (6 oz)
- 3/4 c shredded mozzarella cheese
- fresh or dried chives (optional)
Directions

1In a large saucepan, saute onion in butter until tender.

2Add flour, salt, pepper and garlic powder; stir until smooth. Gradually add milk; cook and stir over medium heat until thickened and bubbly.

3Meanwhile bring chicken broth to a boil in a small saucepan.

4Add carrots and celery to broth and simmer for 5 minutes until vegetables are tender.

5Add to milk mixture and stir until blended.

6Add cheeses.

7Cook and stir until cheeses are melted but do not boil.

8Garnish with chives.
