- 2 Tbsp. butter
- 2 c. soft bread crumbs
- 1/2 c. sugar
- 1/4 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
- 1 lemon rind and juice
- 3 c. apples, chopped
- 1/4 c. water
Directions

1Melt the butter and add the crumbs.

2Mix the sugar, spices and grated lemon rind.

3Put 1 quarter of the crumbs in bottom of a buttered baking dish.

4Cover with half the apples.

5Sprinkle with 1/2 the sugar mix, then add another 1/4 of the crumbs, the remainder of the apples and rest of the sugar mix.

6Add the lemon juice and the water and put the rest of the crumbs on top.

7Cover; bake 45 minutes at 375°.

8Serve plain or with whipped cream.
