Scalloped Cabbage

  • 3 c. cooked, shredded cabbage
  • 3 Tbsp. butter or margarine
  • 3 Tbsp. flour
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/8 tsp. pepper
  • 1 1/2 c. milk
  • 3/4 c. grated Cheddar cheese (I use 1 c.)
  • buttered bread crumbs

    While cabbage is cooking about 7 to 8 minutes in boiling water to cover, prepare the white sauce.

    Melt butter; add flour and seasonings.

    Blend thoroughly.

    Stir in milk gradually.

    Cook until thickened.

    When cabbage is tender, drain well.

    In a 1-quart casserole,

    alternate layers of cabbage, grated cheese and warm white sauce in greased casserole.

    Top with buttered bread crumbs.

    Bake at 350° (preheated oven) for 20 minutes or until crumbs are delicately browned.
