- 3 Tbsp. butter or margarine
- 2 c. fresh bread crumbs
- 1 tsp. salt
- dash of cayenne pepper
- 1/4 c. fresh bread crumbs
- 1/4 c. minced onion
- 1/2 tsp. sugar
- 1/4 tsp. pepper
- 1 (1 lb. 13 oz.) can tomatoes
- 1 Tbsp. melted butter or margarine
Directions

1Heat oven to 375°.

2In small saucepan, heat 3 tablespoons of butter; saute onion until tender.

3Add 2 cups bread crumbs, sugar, salt, pepper and cayenne.

4Arrange layers of tomatoes in greased 1 1/2-quart casserole.

5Top with layer of onion-bread mixture. Continue until all is used, ending with tomatoes on top.

6Combine 1/4 cup bread crumbs with 1 tablespoon butter; sprinkle over tomatoes.

7Bake, uncovered, for 45 minutes.

8Serves 5 to 6.
