  • 1-3/4 cup flour
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 dash salt
  • 3 tbsp. shortening
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp. sugar
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • Raisins, currants, dried cranberries, chopped dates, grated fruit peel (optional)

Directions

    Preheat oven to 400F.

    Mix dry ingredients.

    Cut in shortening.

    Stir in the fruit and buttermilk.

    Turn on to a flour board.

    Roll to a 1/2-inch thick and cut into wedges.

    Bake for 10-12 minutes on an ungreased cookie sheet.
