  • 1/2 c. buttermilk
  • 2 c. flour
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 1/2 c. Crisco (8 Tbsp.)
  • 4 Tbsp. cocoa
  • 1 c. water
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 Tbsp. vanilla

Directions

    Add soda to 1/2 cup buttermilk and reserve.

    Sift together flour and sugar.

    Bring Crisco, cocoa and water to a boil.

    Pour the hot mixture over the dry ingredients and mix in the buttermilk mixture, eggs and vanilla.

    Pour into greased, floured 11 x 16-inch pan and bake 20 minutes at 400°.
