- 1/4 pound lean bacon or ham, cut into 1/4-inch dice
- 1 1/4 cups finely chopped onion
- 1 1/2 cups or more water
- 2 cups shell beans (also known as cranberry beans) or lima beans, out of the shells
- 3 cups corn kernels, fresh or frozen
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- Salt to taste, if desired
- Freshly ground pepper to taste
- 2 tablespoons finely chopped chives
Directions

1Put the bacon cubes in a saucepan and add the onion.

2Cook, stirring occasionally, until the onion is wilted.

3Add the water and beans and cook until beans are tender.

4The cooking time will range from 20 to 40 minutes or longer, depending on the age of the beans.

5It may be necessary to add more water as the beans cook.

6Add the corn kernels and cream and cook about five minutes longer.

7Add salt and pepper to taste and stir in the chives.
