Ingredients

  • 1 (No. 46) large shell macaroni
  • 1 lb. sweet or hot sausage
  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • 1 qt. tomato puree
  • 1/2 c. grated cheese
  • 1/2 c. olive oil
  • 1 large onion, diced
  • 1 qt. tomato sauce

Directions

    In large pan, pour olive oil and onion; simmer.

    Add ground beef and sausage (brown).

    Add tomato puree and tomato paste. Cook about 2 hours on low heat, covered.

    Cook shells as directed. Drain; rinse with cold water.

    In a large baking dish, alternate layers of sauce, cheese and shells.

    Cover bottom of pan with sauce first.

    End with sauce on top.

    Bake at 350° for 40 minutes.
